Carbon capture technologies

If carbon dioxide is such a problem and generally carbon per se contributes to the greenhouse effect, then what can be done to help to capture and store some of the excess carbon that we've pumped out and will continue to do so?

Are there any particularly exciting new technologies or methods that can be used to make novel carbon sinks?
