It is a nice name for a credit card: breathe, and the marketing literature is good, saying that this green credit card is "the UK's first credit card dedicated to carbon reduction".
However, once you get behind this marketing information, what does the card actually do to contribute positively to the environment and to earn its credentials as being a green credit card?
There are various important elements with this card. For instance, 0.5% of all money that you spend each month on the card is donated to a range of projects that tackle climate change, and specifically carbon reduction projects, which clearly is actually a significant benefit to the card.
There is a video on the website with the product that says signing up 50,000 customers they estimate could save in the region of 50,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, so clearly that is a rate of 1 tonne per customer. That's based on an average annual spend of £3,000 on the card, and would be equivalent to taking 12,000 cars off UK roads, so clearly significant.
In addition to that, other benefits include the fact that you will get discounts or lower interest rates on certain 'green spending' that you do. There are also a range of offers and discounts on the product that change from time to time: these include for instance 10% off Halford bikes at time of writing.
