American Express Red Credit Card
Issued by:American Express
The American Express Red card has one major attribute that is the key to why the card is listed as a well known ethical credit card.
That fact is that for everything that you spend on the American Express Red credit card, 1% of the money that you spend is used to help fight AIDs in Africa. They give 1% of the money that you spend to a Global Fund that is dedicated to achieving this cause.
There is no annual charge on the card, so this is not something that you have to pay extra for, it is simply automatically the case that effectively 1% of your spend is matched and donated to the aforementioned cause. So this means that the more that you spend on the card, the more money gets donated to that good cause.
According to the American Express website, since the card was launched in March 2006, there have been more than $100 million raised by the credit card and other RED partners and events for the global fund.
The Global Fund itself is described as "the world's leading funder of programmes to fight AIDs, tuberculosis and malaria" so the 1% does not just go to some anonymous fund where you are not sure if your money is being put to good uses - there is information on clear and tangible benefits that have resulted from the fund on its website.
