How To Increase Solar Cell Efficiency

One interesting development is that solar cells could soon be a lot more efficient therefore making them a lot more attractive as an investment and therefore potentially making this technology more attractive than is currently the case.

Infact the maximum efficiency could more than double from 31 percent to 66 percent efficiency, and that's due to a new way of getting the power from electrons that hitherto have simply had the energy dissipated as heat.

The method uses something called quantum dots which are tiny tiny pieces of semiconducting materials. This reduces the rate at which the very hot electrons lose their energy to the environment which means that there is therefore time for their energy to be captured.

If this technology proves viable, reliable and indeed affordable then it will mean greatly increased efficiency for the solar cells of the future which from the point of view of renewable energy sources is great news.
